Children and Siyaya Early morning and soon I will be meeting with the
Boast Ville kids to facilitate their weekly art
classes. Mingling with them has always been a
blessing, they are filled with so much love and
they are able to express without too much
inhibitions. Am planning some more freestyle
embroidery with them today. Found objects like
broken mirrors, glass, stones, grass to be sewn
onto a texile background. Theme will
be "selfportrait in stitches and found objects"
and they would be busy with that for the next few
weeks.

Working with children is most inspiring. Their
naive renderings are an inspiration in my own
artworks... simplicity, perspective, experience,
vision, etc
Other children we work with are the HIV orphans
from the Masikulisane Centre for HIV orphans and
or abused and neglected children.
Children's artworks will go on display at a new
local Cultural Museum - the Red Location Museum -
from 29 November 2001.

Masterpieces
Many children arrived for the freestyle art
workshop.
Early in the morning a very sweet little 9 year
old girl, Khanyile, went up picked up tiny
stones, bits of broken mirrors, pieces of broken
glass.
Children worked on callico, about 20 cm x 30 cm.
First they did the outlines of their
selfportraits, then they began working on
different areas with the assistance of
embroidery hoops. So far the works look so
awesome. I am sooooo surprised - and most
thrilled.
I have decided to give them ample time to
explore and express their deepest feelings.
