My birthday
It turned out great!
Friends surprised me and took me out for the
evening.
My son Khaya was so precious! And he gave me some
chocolate and superjuice! Wow!

Children and Siyaya
Early morning and soon I will be meeting with the
Boast Ville kids to facilitate their weekly art
classes. Mingling with them has always been a
blessing, they are filled with so much love and
they are able to express without too much
inhibitions. Am planning some more freestyle
embroidery with them today. Found objects like
broken mirrors, glass, stones, grass to be sewn
onto a texile background. Theme will
be "selfportrait in stitches and found objects"
and they would be busy with that for the next few
weeks.
Read more about Siyaya - the Art Centre I
founded, at

Working with children is most inspiring. Their
naive renderings are an inspiration in my own
artworks... simplicity, perspective, experience,
vision, etc
Other children we work with are the HIV orphans
from the Masikulisane Centre for HIV orphans and
or abused and neglected children.
Children's artworks will go on display at a new
local Cultural Museum - the Red Location Museum -
from 29 November 2001.

half a century
Well, today I am half a century old. And it has
been the strangest birthday ever.
Not one of my family members contacted me, my
son, Yucca, send no greetings, my son Khaya had
to be reminded.
Only people who remembered was Anna and James and
Joanne. That was great receiving their greetings.
No cake, finances are down to zero.
God, you care I know - and I am ageless in your
sight. Thank you for giving me 50 amazing years
of life here on earth. And for being my father
and my best friend ever!
